Carolina Moreno, a resident of Canada, has recounted a harrowing experience that turned her recent birth into an unsettling saga. The 27-year-old mother, who is now caring for her third child, faced an extraordinary set of circumstances during what was supposed to be a routine delivery. While feeling “fully traumatised” by the incident, she also expresses gratitude that her newborn son arrived in “perfect health.”

In a video that has since gone viral on TikTok, Moreno detailed the unnerving moment she woke to find her baby unexpectedly delivered, saying, “I was fully traumatized.” The ordeal began with her admission to hospital due to a positive test for Group B Streptococcus (GBS), necessitating the administration of antibiotics before the delivery could commence.

During her previous pregnancies, Moreno experienced lengthy periods of labour, but this occasion proved different. Upon medical evaluation, she was discovered to be 3 cm dilated with a thin cervix, prompting the decision to break her waters and start her on Pitocin, a medication that stimulates contractions. While she felt uncomfortable, she requested an epidural to manage her pain.
Moreno recalls that, after waiting for the epidural to take effect, she eventually succumbed to sleep, her husband and relatives present in the room for support. “I drifted off, and time passed,” she explained. While she slept, hospital staff routinely monitored her baby’s heartbeat. However, when alarms sounded indicating that the heartbeat could not be found, a nurse entered the room to investigate.
Moreno woke to find her medical team in a scramble. At first, she thought nothing alarming was happening. But as time elapsed without conclusive results, concern grew. The increasingly tense atmosphere prompted her to ask the nurse for advice on how to position herself for help. After rolling onto her back, Moreno’s worst fears began to unfold. She described feeling an unusual sensation in her abdomen and instinctively thinking something was wrong with her baby.
As she moved her legs, Moreno was startled to feel something on the bed that she never expected — it was her newborn son, face down under a pile of blankets. “I swear I thought it was going to be my placenta or my uterus,” she admitted. “Never did I think it was going to be my baby.” The sight sent her into a panic, especially as her son lay silent, not making a sound.
Fortunately, the vigilant nurse acted swiftly, lifting her son from the bedding and stimulating him to cry. Moreno was nearly in disbelief as she screamed for her husband, who had thought he had missed the delivery. The alarming series of events left her struggling to process the moment her son was revived.
Reflecting on the day of her son’s birth, Moreno expressed how shocking it was to realise he had quietly made his entry into the world while she was obliviously asleep. The nurse, she noted, hadn’t delivered her son; the baby had delivered himself — which underlined the initial fears regarding the inability to find his heartbeat earlier.
Now, three months later, Moreno is relieved to report that her son is thriving and displays a calm demeanour. “He’s absolutely amazing,” she said, praising him as their easiest baby thus far. Adapting to family life with her new addition has been seamless, providing solace after a “scary” entrance into the world.
Moreno concluded by stating her gratitude for the healthy outcome, thankful to see her son’s innate calmness shine through after such distress. “It was incredibly scary finding him on his stomach under the blankets, not crying, but now that we know his personality, it really makes sense — he’s just the most calm baby,” she said.
The experience, while traumatic, has ultimately fostered a deep appreciation for her healthy child, marking what has become a remarkable story of resilience for the young family.
