A 37-year-old woman from Kentucky has been arrested following a disturbing incident in which she reportedly left a 91-year-old man inside a car during dangerously high temperatures, allegedly because he refused to purchase cigarettes for her. The incident occurred on Thursday, 2nd July, in East Bernstadt, when temperatures soared to a heat index of 101 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 38 degrees Celsius).
Nikki Reed Hoskins, whose arrest was confirmed by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, is facing multiple serious charges, including wanton endangerment, theft, and assault. According to local authorities, Hoskins had removed the keys from the man’s vehicle, rendering it inoperable while leaving him inside.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they were alerted to the situation by a concerned passerby who noticed the elderly man stranded on the roadside. The man informed the deputies that he had been left there because he had declined to provide Hoskins with cigarettes. Given the extreme heat conditions, this revelation raised immediate alarm among the officers on duty.
