A 26-year-old hairstylist has been arrested following allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards female passengers aboard the Virgin Voyages cruise ship, Brilliant Lady. Pranit Narayan Pawar, a citizen of India, faces two counts of abusive sexual contact after reportedly molesting several women under the pretense of providing massages.

The incident came to light after the Brilliant Lady returned to Seattle from an Alaskan cruise on July 2, with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington announcing his arrest shortly thereafter. According to court documents, the FBI is now investigating the accusations, which involve at least two women who reported inappropriate touching during their appointments in the ship’s salon.
In one case, a woman, referred to as Victim 1 (V1), claimed she was offered a complimentary massage during her appointment with Pawar. Following her acceptance, she was allegedly led to a dimly lit area of the ship that lacked outside visibility, where Pawar proceeded to massage her neck before moving under her clothing. The complaint details that he touched her inappropriately for approximately ten minutes.
Another woman, identified as Victim 2 (V2), reported a similar experience on a different occasion. She stated that after agreeing to additional appointments with Pawar, during one session he locked the door to the same secluded area before beginning to touch her without consent. When asked if he could continue, she firmly declined and left the appointment.
Upon boarding the ship upon its arrival in Seattle, FBI special agents interviewed Pawar, who admitted to giving massages to clients during the cruise, despite his official job as a barber and hairdresser not encompassing such duties. He acknowledged that his conduct included touching the breasts of the two women, suggesting he believed he was helping them in a therapeutic manner, although he later expressed feelings of guilt and regret for his actions.
Pawar’s actions are now under federal jurisdiction due to the location of the alleged offences on the cruise ship. Abusive sexual contact carries significant penalties, with a maximum sentence of up to two years in prison. He is currently detained at the SeaTac Federal Detention Center while awaiting further legal proceedings.
Officials from Virgin Voyages have strongly condemned Pawar’s behaviour, labelling it a severe breach of trust. The cruise line stated that he was employed by a third-party service for onboard salon operations and was removed from his position immediately after the company learned of the allegations. They further confirmed that the incident had been reported to federal authorities.
