Determined to honour her father’s desire, Heather quickly organised the event for June 29. She procured a wedding dress and requested her brother, Nate Lindberg, to officiate the ceremony. Nate described the urgency of the request, explaining, “Heather asked me on Sunday night [June 28], ‘How quickly do you think you’d be able to get a marriage officiant license?’ I applied for it, paid the fee, and I woke up to it in my email the next morning.”
On the day of the ceremony, family and friends gathered in the hospital room to witness the touching vows. As Heather held her father’s hand while he lay in bed, he cracked jokes, easing the atmosphere with his trademark humour. “I’m giving you away now,” he remarked, evoking smiles all around.
