Authorities in Illinois have announced the arrest of two individuals following the unsettling discovery of a severed arm floating in Lake Mattoon. The arm, notable for its distinctive tattoos, was found by boaters on June 28, and has since been linked to the death of 38-year-old Dalewayne Turner from Plainfield.

James Adams, 26, and Robin Turner, 62, now face charges that include concealment of a homicide and dismemberment of a human body. The alarming events escalated on the evening of the discovery, prompting a rapid investigation that captured the attention of both local and national media.
Eyewitness Sammy Flynn, who was on the lake with her family, recalled her initial shock during the encounter. Initially assuming she was clearing away dead fish, she felt something was amiss as she examined the object more closely and recognised the tattoos. Flynn described her disbelief, stating, “Something’s not right,” as she realised the gravity of what she had found.
In response to the discovery, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the Illinois State Police to conduct a thorough investigation. Authorities released images of the arm’s tattoos in an effort to identify the victim, which proved to be an essential step in the case.
Investigation efforts intensified as police recovered additional human remains from the lake. Preliminary forensic examinations allowed them to confirm that the victim was Dalewayne Turner. Upon determining potential suspects, investigators swiftly identified both Adams and Turner as persons of interest in the case.
On July 1, police executed a search warrant at a residence linked to the suspects located on Ruth Fitzgerald Drive in Plainfield. During this search, authorities took both Adams and Turner into custody and recovered what they believe to be further evidence pertaining to the case.
Charges against both individuals were formalised the following day after the Illinois State Police presented their findings to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office. As investigations progress, both suspects remain in custody, and law enforcement officials expect additional charges to be filed.
As of now, no further details regarding the circumstances of Dalewayne Turner’s death have been disclosed. The Illinois State Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that updates will be provided as new information emerges.
This incident has sparked significant concern within the local community, as residents grapple with the implications of such violence occurring in their area. Marked by its previously tranquil scenery, Lake Mattoon has been thrust into the spotlight following this gruesome discovery.
With the investigation advancing, authorities have urged anyone with information that may assist in the case to come forward, reaffirming their commitment to uncovering the full truth behind this disturbing event. The Lake Mattoon area, once a peaceful destination, now finds itself at the centre of a homicide investigation that continues to unfold.
