Recent financial disclosures have revealed that Melania Trump, the First Lady, has amassed substantial earnings in the past year, totalling millions of pounds, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s return to the White House. According to filings released by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, President Trump himself has reportedly generated over $2 billion during the same period.

The 927-page financial report, made public on 30th June, unveiled Melania Trump’s income sources, including a significant $10.7 million derived from her self-titled documentary, which was released through Amazon MGM Studios. Additionally, she reported earnings of $6 million from sales of NFTs and other collectibles, alongside $521,000 from her memoir expected to be released in 2024.

Her documentary, simply titled “Melania,” premiered at the Kennedy Center in January 2026 and was acquired by Amazon for a substantial $40 million. The studio subsequently invested a further $35 million in a marketing campaign promoting the film. Directed by Brett Ratner—known for his work on films such as *Rush Hour* and *Tower Heist*—the documentary chronicles Melania Trump’s experiences leading up to her husband’s second inauguration scheduled for January 2025. Notably, Ratner has faced allegations of sexual assault; he has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has never faced criminal charges.

In a promotional event at the New York Stock Exchange, Melania emphasised the importance of storytelling in contemporary culture. “Superior storytelling drives culture and in turn moves markets,” she stated. “Our ability to tell our stories and emotionally connect with audiences is paramount. People long to be moved.” Despite these lofty aspirations, the film’s initial box office performance was underwhelming, bringing in $7 million during its opening weekend before accumulating a total of $16.6 million globally, as reported by Box Office Mojo.
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, recently defended the studio’s decision to acquire the documentary during a May interview with CNBC. He asserted his lack of involvement in the project, stating, “The Melania thing is a falsehood that will not die.” Bezos also lauded the film’s business success, commenting, “It appears that the Amazon team made a very wise business decision. People are very curious about Melania.”
The financial disclosures have ignited discussions regarding the contrasting earnings of Melania Trump compared to her predecessor, former First Lady Jill Biden. In contrast, Jill Biden’s previous financial disclosures indicated various retirement and pension funds, along with earnings of up to $53,000 from book royalties and speaking engagements, as well as an annual teaching salary from Northern Virginia Community College reported to be just below £90,000.
Additionally, Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance released their own financial disclosures, which were notably brief at only 17 pages. Usha Vance’s disclosure revealed assets valued at less than $250,000 across various retirement funds and investment portfolios.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly addressed inquiries regarding the financial successes of the Trump administration, stating, “Americans wanted a businessman in office. The president has had a pretty successful career in the past as you know, but [his] policies are uplifting and making all Americans wealthier and more prosperous.”
As the Trumps continue to navigate their dual roles as public figures and private individuals, these financial disclosures shed light on their financial landscape and the considerable revenues they have generated since returning to the political limelight. With further developments expected in both their professional and personal spheres, the public remains keenly interested in the unfolding story surrounding the Trump family’s financial activities.
