Celebrations were in full swing recently as Kristin Doute and her fiancé Luke Broderick marked their daughter Kaia’s first birthday with a delightful Under the Sea-themed party. The event took place on 20 June and was organised by Brittany Cartwright, a close friend and co-star from the reality show *The Valley*.

Doute, who at 43 is celebrated for her time on television, shared her joy with *People* magazine. “Luke and I feel like we are finally out of survival mode and can truly enjoy Kaia now, celebrating all her little milestones,” she expressed. Kaia is on the cusp of walking and has already developed six teeth, showcasing a natural curiosity that has left her parents in admiration.
The charming party, managed by Picnic and Petal with floral arrangements by Delles Floral Design, was filled with engaging activities for the little ones. Young guests enjoyed a soft play area, a swing set, and even a pool. To make the celebration extra special, a unique table allowed attendees to “adopt” stuffed sea creatures to take home as mementoes of the occasion. For the more adult attendees, there was a selection of pizzas for the kids, alongside a sophisticated charcuterie board and Avaline Wine.
Kristin expressed her gratitude for Cartwright’s involvement, recalling that Brittany had also organised her baby shower. “She said she would love nothing more,” said Doute, reflecting on Brittany’s enthusiasm. “From day one, she was helping me go through my Pinterest and hand-selecting every detail.”
Their friendship has grown strong over the years, and Doute is grateful for the support and joy that Cartwright brings to her life. In a light-hearted nod, she mentioned that Brittany is even Kaia’s emergency contact, which underscores the depth of their bond.
One of the most anticipated moments of Kaia’s birthday was the classic smash cake tradition. Doute expressed her curiosity about whether Kaia would embrace the cake as enthusiastically as other children often do. “I’ve heard so many parents talk about the smash cake and how their kids were just not into them, so I was really looking forward to seeing how Kaia would act,” she remarked.
To her delight, the little one proved to be a natural. “She was like, ‘Let’s get down!’ That truly was my favourite part of the day,” Doute explained, reminiscing about the joy of seeing her daughter enjoy the cake. The warm atmosphere was enhanced by friends and their children who joined in the festivities, creating a lovely celebration of Kaia’s first year.
