Reports indicate that the incident occurred around 5:25 p.m. near Exit 54, where Simmons’ tractor-trailer overturned, sending plumes of smoke into the air as the vehicle hung precariously off the edge of the bridge. This coordination enabled the West Virginia shelter to reach out to Simmons’ surviving family members back in Iowa. KCHA conveyed to the family its condolences and pledged to assist in reuniting Hennessy with them, stating, “We will work to get her back to her remaining family.”
A day later, on June 24, ARLM provided a heartwarming update to Hennessy’s story. The family had the opportunity to connect with Hennessy over a FaceTime call. This interaction visibly uplifted the dog’s spirits, as the familiarity of her loved ones brought her comfort during this difficult time.
