The body of a 16-year-old girl, identified as Destiny Neal, was recovered from the Fox River in Elgin, Illinois, on Sunday, June 21, two days after she was reported missing. According to the Elgin Police Department (EPD), investigation efforts intensified after Neal’s disappearance. On the afternoon of June 21, at around 3:51 p.m., detectives located her body in the river, just north of the Kimball Street Bridge. The Elgin Fire Department and the Kane County Coroner’s Office promptly responded to the incident.

The Coroner’s Office later confirmed the identity of the deceased as Destiny Neal on Monday, June 22. Dr. Monica Silva, the Kane County Coroner, stated in a press release, “The Kane County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that 16-year-old Destiny Neal from Elgin, Illinois, has been positively identified as the female decedent the EFD recovered from the Fox River on June 21.”
An autopsy was performed on the following Monday following the recovery of Neal’s body.
