The Alaska State Troopers reported that Villalovos was last seen when the vessel overturned in the river after it struck what is believed to be a rock or a log. The incident occurred at approximately 1:02 a.m. on Saturday, prompting a search operation that lasted into the following day.

A female passenger on the boat was safely rescued by nearby passersby shortly after the incident. According to reports, she informed the rescuers that Villalovos was missing. Although her identity is yet to be released, she played a crucial role in alerting authorities about the situation.
Search teams launched an extensive operation that included personnel from Alaska State Troopers, Willow/Caswell Fire Department, Talkeetna Fire Department, and the Alaska Dive Rescue Team. The effort also involved the deployment of underwater cameras and a K9 unit to assist in locating Villalovos.
A breakthrough came on June 7, when the Alaska Dive Rescue Team discovered Villalovos’ body at approximately 11:30 a.m. local time, close to the site where the boat had capsized. After recovery, his remains were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Dana Fisher, who publicly identified herself as Villalovos’ mother, took to social media on Saturday to appeal for volunteers to assist in the search for her son. She revealed that he was at the helm of the boat during the incident and expressed her distress over his disappearance.
The search operation drew considerable attention, with community members joining the effort to locate the young man. The Alaska Solstice Search Dogs and other local rescue teams also participated in the recovery efforts.
The Alaska Solstice Search Dogs extended their condolences to Villalovos’ family and friends in a social media post, reflecting the community’s sorrow over the tragic incident. The loss has resonated deeply within the local area, with many expressing their sympathies for the family.
In light of the tragedy, safety experts often stress the importance of caution while boating, particularly in areas with hidden hazards. Investigations into similar incidents highlight the need for wearing life jackets and ensuring vessels are well-maintained to prevent accidents.
As the small Alaskan community grapples with this heartbreaking event, many are left reflecting on the fragility of life and the importance of safety in water activities. The authorities continue to remind the public about the dangers posed by natural waterways, especially during the summer months when recreational boating activities peak.
