In his heartfelt message, Lauv, whose real name is Ari Staprans Leff, expressed his regret to fans, fellow artist Khalid, and everyone impacted by his decision. “I’ve been trying to be strong enough to get back out there and share this music with all of you,” he wrote. However, Lauv felt it necessary to prioritise his well-being. “I’m deeply struggling right now, and I need to step away for a little while to take care of my mental health.”

Acknowledging that his battles with mental health issues are not new, Lauv stated that they influence much of his music. He hopes his openness about these challenges may encourage others to confront their feelings. “If being open about this right now helps even one person look at their feelings and try to address what’s going on, then hopefully something good will come from it,” he added.
Lauv has candidly discussed his experiences with obsessive-compulsive disorder and substance use in the past, demonstrating his commitment to transparency. His message conveyed a commitment to recovery: “I’ll do everything I can to get healthy, get back into a creative place, and get back to doing what I love best. This. Music.”
Khalid, 28, responded on social media shortly after Lauv’s announcement, expressing his support for his tourmate and acknowledging Lauv’s performance despite his personal struggles. “I wanna take this moment to give thanks and appreciation to @lauvsongs for joining me on the tour and doing the best he could with the struggles he’s facing with his mental health currently,” Khalid wrote.
The singer of “Talk” provided an encouraging message to Lauv, wishing him “an abundance of love, light, and clarity through your dark times.” He acknowledged the impact of Lauv’s music, stating, “Your stories and songs have impacted so many fans and listeners, and we all will continue to be there for you.”
Khalid’s “It’s Always Summer Somewhere Tour” commenced on May 16 in Las Vegas and is expected to run until June 26 in Berkeley, California. Despite the tour’s extensive schedule, Lauv was able to complete ten shows before deciding to step back to address his mental health.
Both artists recently collaborated on a track titled “Tied Up,” which has resonated with fans. Their partnership has showcased their shared musical talents and ability to connect with listeners through relatable themes.
Individuals experiencing mental health challenges, including emotional distress or addiction issues, are encouraged to seek help. The national helpline 988 offers support and resources 24/7 for those in need of assistance.
As the conversation around mental health continues to evolve, Lauv’s decision to prioritise his well-being serves as a reminder for artists and fans alike that it is essential to take care of oneself. The support expressed by Khalid during this challenging time underscores the importance of community and understanding in navigating personal struggles.
