Tony Award winners Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff are set to collaborate once again, this time on the upcoming film **Trust the Man**. The movie, which is in development, will mark a significant reunion for the pair, who recently captivated audiences in the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s **Merrily We Roll Along**.

**Trust the Man** is being helmed by writer-director Will Graham, and it is set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War. The narrative follows an Army intelligence officer tasked with probing the history of a decorated soldier, whose past proves to be enigmatic. As the story unfolds, the tensions between loyalty and obsession intensify, thrusting both characters into a precarious and potentially perilous relationship.
Though initially announced with Lucas Hedges also in the cast, recent reports suggest that scheduling conflicts have led to Hedges stepping away from the project. As of now, the specifics regarding Groff’s role remain undisclosed, keeping fans guessing about what they can anticipate from his performance.
Radcliffe, now 36, and Groff, who is 41, gained acclaim for their roles in **Merrily We Roll Along**, which transitioned from Off-Broadway to the main stage for the first time in its history between October 2023 and July 2024. The production not only spotlighted their talents but also fostered a strong friendship among its cast members.
Lindsay Mendez, the third star of the show, enjoyed a close bond with both actors. Their camaraderie was evident when Radcliffe took on the role of ring bearer at Mendez’s wedding to fellow actor J. Alex Brinson in April 2024, while Groff officiated the ceremony. Reflecting on their relationship, Mendez remarked, “They were with me right when I started dating my husband and have been with me through a lot of just that season of my life.” She highlighted the depth of their connection as a key element that made performing together feel effortless.
In his acceptance speech for the Tony Award, Groff paid tribute to Mendez and Radcliffe, calling them “soulmates.” He expressed his excitement about the journey they would continue to share: “I’m looking forward to watching each other change for the rest of our lives.” Their heartfelt words underscored the profound bond that developed over the course of their shared experiences in theatre.
Post **Merrily We Roll Along**, Groff has been busy with various projects. He recently portrayed Bobby Darin in the musical **Just in Time** and is gearing up to play Rosalind in a new production of **As You Like It** with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Additionally, he will star in the film musical **Octet**, which is directed by his **Hamilton** co-star, Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe is not resting on his laurels, as he is also a contender at this year’s Tony Awards for his performance in the play **Every Brilliant Thing** at the Hudson Theatre. Balancing his stage work, he has recently featured in the NBC sitcom **The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins**, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
As anticipation builds for **Trust the Man**, fans of both actors can look forward to witnessing the chemistry that has blossomed between Radcliffe and Groff, both on and off stage. This film promises to be another exciting chapter in their evolving careers and a compelling project for audiences to watch out for in the near future.
