Murad was last seen on Thursday, May 28, after she boarded a Pace bus at the Chicago Premium Outlets around 1:29 p.m. According to Aurora Police Department’s (APD) findings, she disembarked the bus near North Farnsworth Avenue and Corporate Boulevard at approximately 1:53 p.m. Surveillance footage captured her walking northbound before she vanished from sight.

Following her disappearance, law enforcement officials initiated a thorough search of the shopping mall and its surrounding area. Detectives uncovered footage that confirmed Murad had travelled to the vicinity of North Farnsworth Avenue. The search intensified over the following days, as concern for her safety grew.

On the evening of Monday, June 1, officers reported a significant development in the case. At around 7:35 p.m., a team carrying out searches in the area identified an object in a retention pond situated to the east of Corporate Boulevard. A police drone operator assisted in conducting a detailed examination of the site, which ultimately led to the confirmation of the discovery of a deceased person.
At present, the deceased has not been positively identified, and investigators are treating the incident with caution. An autopsy was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 3, at the Kane County Coroner’s Office. This examination aims to establish not only the identification of the body but also the cause and manner of death.
Despite the grim development, the APD has declared that the investigation into Murad’s disappearance is still active. The authorities are pursuing all leads and examining every potential avenue to provide closure for her family.
In their missing person appeal, the APD described Murad as standing five feet tall and weighing approximately 105 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes, and she was wearing a light green jacket, blue jeans, and brown shoes at the time she was last seen. Murad’s sister, Sofia, expressed her anguish to local media, stating, “She doesn’t have food, she doesn’t have her wallet, she doesn’t have her ID, no location. We don’t know where she is, and I just want to know where she is because it has been a living nightmare.”
The ongoing situation has left those in the community deeply unsettled, and there is a strong sense of urgency around gathering information regarding Murad’s whereabouts. The local police have urged anyone who may have relevant information to come forward. Individuals can contact the Aurora Police Investigations unit at 630-256-5500 or email tips@aurora.il.us.
As the investigation unfolds, the community and authorities alike are hoping for clarity in what has become a heartbreaking chapter for the Murad family. The coming days are expected to provide more information as the autopsy results are awaited, and detectives continue to follow any new leads that may emerge.
