The Lyndhurst Police Department shared the news on their social media platforms, confirming that Hooper was found in good health. Deputy Chief Paul F. Haggerty stated in a comment to PEOPLE that the young man returned of his own volition. He further clarified that the investigation revealed no criminal activity surrounding Hooper’s disappearance, noting that the police were solely focused on assisting his family throughout this time.

Bill had been reported missing by his parents after he was last seen on May 21. According to initial reports, he left his home in Lyndhurst and travelled by train to New York City’s Penn Station. The local authorities acted quickly, disseminating alerts to gather information about Hooper’s whereabouts.

In a video shared by the Lyndhurst Police Department, Bill’s parents, Jim and Marilyn Hooper, addressed the public to express their concerns for their son. They emphasised that despite his absence, there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his disappearance. A police officer confirmed in the clip that the investigation was not being treated as a criminal case.
Days leading up to his return, his parents had described him as feeling overwhelmed and vulnerable. Reports indicated that Bill had faced challenges after sustaining a leg injury which hindered his ability to work at a Manhattan wine shop. He had subsequently moved back in with his parents in January.
Jim and Marilyn Hooper provided further insight into their son’s mental state, revealing the pressures that come with being an online influencer. They mentioned that Bill’s sudden rise to fame on TikTok contributed to his anxiety. The couple told NJ.com that he appeared troubled by the widespread attention his motivational content had received, prompting a hiatus from posting in mid-March.
Prior to his disappearance, Hooper shared videos on TikTok addressing various life challenges. He candidly spoke of his leg injury and the positive changes he experienced through fitness. In his last upload before going missing, he urged viewers not to take their health for granted, stating, “If you have your health, you have everything you need.” The heartfelt message struck a chord with his followers, reflecting the empathy that defines much of his online persona.
The attention Hooper attracted on social media played a crucial role in his family’s concerns. Jim Hooper indicated that the pressure of modern technology and rapid online growth became burdensome for Bill, further complicating his situation. “I think he was overwhelmed by modern-day use of cellphones and with blowing up on TikTok,” Jim stated.
Now that he has been located, the Hoopers are relieved but still emphasise the importance of prioritising mental health and well-being, particularly in the high-stakes world of social media. Hooper’s experience underlines the often unseen struggles faced by young influencers, who may grapple with issues of anxiety and self-worth amidst the pressures of public expectation.
Authorities have since concluded their investigation, underscoring the importance of community awareness in safeguarding individuals who may be facing personal challenges. As the Hooper family continues to navigate this period, they are hopeful for their son’s recovery and future wellbeing.
In light of Hooper’s disappearance and the subsequent response that unfolded, discussions around mental health support for content creators are likely to gain momentum. The balance between the benefits of social media and its potential pitfalls is a conversation that remains more relevant than ever.
