The Big Boss Diamond, which had departed from the popular resort city of Marmaris, began taking on water shortly after arriving in Akvaryum Bay, not far from Paradise Island. Passengers were forced to abandon the ship as it started to submerge, plunging into the choppy waters while awaiting rescue.

Videos shared across social media showed the boat precariously tilting on one side before disappearing beneath the surface, leaving only the ship’s mast visible moments before it became fully submerged. Rapid responses from nearby tourists helped capture the distressing scene, which highlighted the intensity of the situation faced by those on board.
Fortunately, rescue crews promptly arrived at the scene, successfully bringing everyone safely ashore. Reports indicated that the entire rescue operation unfolded within about an hour, alleviating fears of potential casualties. The Muğla Governorship, the provincial authority overseeing the area, confirmed that no injuries, health problems, or fatalities were reported in connection with the incident.
While officials have yet to determine the precise cause of the sinking, witnesses suggested that they observed flames erupt from the boat’s engine just moments before it began to take on water. One British passenger recounted her relief at escaping the ordeal, stating she was “glad to be off it and alive.”
Following the incident, the operator of the Big Boss Diamond took to social media to reassure concerned followers. In an Instagram post which has since expired, the company expressed gratitude for the well-wishes and confirmed that all individuals aboard were unharmed. They further announced that operations would continue on their other vessel, the Big Boss Yagna, while the damaged boat underwent repairs.
Yagna Tourism, the company behind these excursions, is known for its daily trips around Marmaris, providing tourists with a blend of swimming opportunities and sightseeing experiences. The excursion aboard the Big Boss Diamond typically lasts approximately five hours and promises “magical moments of a lifetime” according to their promotional materials.
As inquiries into the incident continue, Yagna Tourism has yet to provide additional commentary or details regarding the future of the Big Boss Diamond. The recent sinking has raised concerns among previous and potential passengers about the safety of the company’s operations.
Despite the traumatic experience faced by those on board, the prompt response from rescue teams has been commended, ensuring that all passengers could return to shore unharmed. Nevertheless, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of maritime activities, particularly in popular tourist regions such as Turkey’s picturesque coastline.
Local authorities remain involved in the investigation, working alongside the Turkish Coast Guard to ascertain the circumstances leading to this alarming event. As more information emerges, it is hoped that steps will be taken to enhance safety measures for tourist excursions in the future, aiming to prevent such terrifying situations from occurring again.
As the summer season approaches, tourist safety will undoubtedly be a priority concern for both operators and customers alike.
