The vitamins in question are produced by Vita Health Products Inc., based in Winnipeg. They are identified by their white pill bottle, which features the “Kirkland Signature” branding prominently on the top and the words “Women 50+ Femmes” in purple lettering. Health officials urge consumers to check the lot number, specifically “5J46568W7,” to determine if their product is affected by the recall.
Health Canada has categorised this incident as a Type II recall. This classification indicates that the vitamins could result in temporary adverse health consequences, although the likelihood of serious health issues is considered very low. As per the guidelines from Health Canada, affected customers should immediately stop using the product and seek advice from a healthcare professional if they experience any side effects.

In light of this announcement, Health Canada is requesting that consumers report any adverse reactions they may encounter while using the recalled vitamins. These reactions could include discomfort or pain stemming from swallowing foreign objects, particularly in the throat or chest area, though most individuals who inadvertently ingest such materials typically do not experience serious issues.

Kirkland Signature is the exclusive private label brand of Costco, and these vitamins are not only sold in-store but are also accessible online through platforms such as Amazon and eBay. The popularity of Costco’s Kirkland products often leads to high demand, raising concerns regarding the distribution of potentially hazardous items.
In a related note, the recall comes shortly after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a similar issue in the United States involving Straus Family Creamery. The firm recalled various ice cream flavours due to the possible presence of metal contaminants, affecting products that had been available in stores across 17 states since early May.
The timing of these recalls has heightened awareness around product safety, prompting consumers to be vigilant about their purchases. Health officials are reinforcing the importance of inspecting products before consumption, especially when dealing with products that have a significant risk of contamination.
As investigations continue, Costco has been contacted to provide further comment regarding the recall and its implications for consumers. Shoppers are advised to remain informed about notifications from health authorities and to report concerns without hesitation.
This incident serves as a reminder of the significance of rigorous product safety measures within the food and health sectors. Consumers are encouraged to maintain awareness of product recalls and to seek updates from official sources to ensure their health and safety.
