A man from Ellicott City, Maryland, is celebrating after winning a remarkable £570,000 lottery jackpot, a life-changing event that stems from a simple alteration in his usual routine. The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous and adopted the moniker “Multi-Match Maniac,” claimed his prize from the Maryland Lottery’s Multi-Match game on April 16, nearly a month before making the visit to collect his winnings.

The father admitted that he has adhered to the same numbers for years, consistently playing the Multi-Match lottery game twice a week. Despite his long-standing habits, this time he deviated slightly from his routine. Instead of scanning his ticket as he would typically do, he chose to check the winning numbers online, leading to a life-changing moment.
“I looked at the numbers and the ticket,” he recounted. “I thought this can’t be true.” His disbelief stemmed from the fact that each of the winning numbers—02, 06, 08, 12, 29, and 38—matched perfectly with the numbers on his ticket. His fortunate alignment not only confirmed that he had won but also constituted the highest jackpot available in the game.
In the same drawing, 15 other players also experienced moments of joy as they won the second-highest prize of £1,000 by matching five of the six drawn numbers. Additionally, another player took home a £2,000 prize for matching 10 out of the 18 total numbers listed on their ticket, showcasing the wide array of winners from that drawing.
The winner experienced a whirlwind of emotions following his realisation. The next day, he visited his local Lottery retailer to cash in on his monumental win. However, he was dismayed to learn that the amount he had won was too substantial to be cashed at the location. This situation caused him to panic, prompting him to sign his ticket and hide it away for fear of losing it.
Approximately 30 days passed before he gathered the courage to visit the lottery headquarters to claim his prize, plagued by nightmares that he might have misplaced his ticket. Ultimately, he opted for the cash option, taking home £320,000 which will facilitate significant changes in his life.
With regard to his plans for the winnings, the dedicated father has prioritised his daughter’s education. He expressed that contributing towards her college tuition is the most gratifying aspect of his newfound wealth. “That’s my favourite part of all of this,” he remarked, adding that he intends also to save and invest part of the sum for future security.
The triumphant win not only altered his financial standing but also underscored the importance of seizing opportunities, even if they arise from a change in one’s usual routine. The “Multi-Match Maniac” is now able to navigate through life with greater assurance, all thanks to his lucky numbers and a moment of serendipity.
