A 25-year-old man from Hagaman, New York, found himself in legal trouble after arriving at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to collect a friend who had just been released on a Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) charge. Antone M. Glionna’s attempt to provide support for his friend quickly transformed into a situation where he faced charges of his own.

On May 16, Glionna drove into a restricted area of the sheriff’s office rather than using the designated public parking. This decision raised the suspicions of a deputy sheriff present on the scene. Upon noticing Glionna’s actions, the deputy approached him, suspecting he might be under the influence of alcohol.

Subsequent to the deputy’s interaction with Glionna, he was subjected to a series of standardized field sobriety tests, which he failed. This led to his arrest on charges of DWI. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office later reported that a review of Glionna’s driving history revealed his licence had previously been revoked. This was due to a prior conviction related to DWI and an instance where he had refused a chemical test.
Following his arrest, Glionna was charged with several offences. These included aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, a Class E felony; driving with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher, classified as an unclassified misdemeanor; and DWI, also an unclassified misdemeanor for a first offence. Additionally, he faced an infraction for being an unlicensed operator.
This incident illustrates a rather ironic turn of events, where Glionna’s attempt to assist a friend led him to encounter serious legal consequences. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has reiterated the importance of responsible driving and the perils associated with impaired driving.
Following his arrest, Glionna was released into the custody of a third party and is now awaiting a court appearance in Glen Town Court. The date for this court appearance has yet to be confirmed.
As this case unfolds, it serves as a timely reminder of the risks involved with alcohol consumption and driving. Authorities continue to emphasise the need for public awareness regarding the dangers of driving under the influence, which not only places the driver at risk but also puts other road users in jeopardy.
