The five-bedroom house, known as the Marbury House, was home to the couple during JFK’s 1960 presidential campaign and marks a significant chapter in American history.

The couple acquired the property in late 1957 for $82,000, which was a significant investment at the time. According to reports, Jackie Kennedy took on the role of interior designer, investing an additional $18,000 to renovate the house, as detailed in the book “Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis: A Life.” The transformations she made were intended not only for aesthetic enhancement but also to provide an inviting atmosphere for hosting political gatherings during the campaign.
Built in 1811, the property was originally owned by William Marbury, a Federalist businessman, whose role in the landmark Supreme Court case Marbury v. Madison established the principle of judicial review. This case allowed courts to invalidate unconstitutional acts of Congress, thereby shaping the legal framework of the United States.
Throughout their time in the property, the house served various purposes. The living room became a polished space where Jackie Kennedy held political teas and social events.
