Nutella, the beloved hazelnut cocoa spread, is making its debut in the frozen food isle with the introduction of a brand-new ice cream range. The announcement came on 13 May, revealing two products designed to delight fans of the smooth spread. The products include a classic ice cream presented in 14-ounce containers and a more portable option in the form of single-serve wafer cones, which are perfect for enjoying on the go.

The new Nutella Ice Cream promises a unique eating experience, characterised by a “rich, multi-textured, spoonable format”, according to a statement provided by the brand. Consumers can expect to find it in stores at a suggested price starting from £4.36. The single-serve cones, designed for convenience during spontaneous outings, are available in packages of four with a recommended retail price beginning at £5.47.

“This marks the freezer aisle debut that has been a long time coming,” Nutella stated, highlighting the anticipation surrounding the launch of their new frozen treats. The introduction of ice cream follows last month’s release of a new flavour, Nutella Peanut, which signifies the brand’s first flavour innovation in over 60 years. Nutella Peanut combines the classic creaminess of Nutella with the rich taste of roasted peanuts, now available nationwide in major retailers.

Nutella, which has been a staple in households since its establishment in 1964, has seen various innovations in its product line, including the popular Nutella Biscuits and Nutella B-ready. The brand’s recent flavour expansion is a significant development for its loyal customer base, with the new peanut variant touted as “perfectly spreadable” for snacks or sandwiches.
The excitement around Nutella has recently intensified due to a viral moment during the Artemis II mission. A jar of Nutella was spotted on board the Orion spacecraft during a live-streamed event, capturing the attention of viewers around the globe. The footage showed the jar floating in the spacecraft just moments before the crew travelled further into space than any humans have ever gone. The moment sparked a wave of engagement on social media, with many praising it as the “best Nutella commercial ever”.
In response to the viral clip, Nutella shared the footage on the platform X, declaring, “Nutella is out of this world.” They followed this statement with, “Honoured to have travelled further than any spread in history 🚀 Taking spreading smiles to new heights ♥️,” showcasing the brand’s playful marketing strategy and strengthening its connection with consumers.
Food Network star Alex Guarnaschelli also joined the buzz, expressing her enthusiasm for the ice cream on Nutella’s Instagram announcement with a flurry of clapping emojis, further emphasising the excitement surrounding the new products.
As Nutella continues to diversify its offerings, it is clear that the brand is committed to exploring new culinary avenues while maintaining its core identity. With the launch of these frozen products, Nutella aims to tap into the growing market for innovative ice cream treats, appealing to both loyal fans and potential new customers.
In an ever-competitive food industry landscape, Nutella’s introduction of ice cream signifies a strategic move to expand its market presence and cater to changing consumer preferences for convenient, tasty snacks. As the frozen aisle fills with Nutella’s promise of indulgence, it will be interesting to see how well these new offerings are received by the public.
