As the situation escalated, authorities issued a statement noting that the incident remained “very active.” They advised local residents to shelter in place while instructing those outside the immediate area to avoid the vicinity altogether. By approximately 1 p.m., the SPD provided an important update, confirming that the suspect had been taken into custody. They reassured the public that the immediate threat had been neutralised, although they maintained an active investigative presence at the scene for some time afterward.
Syracuse Police Chief Mark Rusin informed media outlets that two of the officers had suffered gunshot wounds to their arms, while a third officer sustained an injury to his hand. Following medical assessment, Chief Rusin confirmed that two of the injured officers were released from the hospital a few hours later. However, one officer remained hospitalised, with updates on their condition anticipated.

As investigations continued, Rusin stated that the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) was contemplating various charges against the suspect, including attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
