In an inspiring tale of familial dedication, Connie Latulippe reflects on her proud role as both a mother and a long-serving cast member at Walt Disney World Resort. Having joined the Magic Kingdom at the tender age of 16, Connie embarked on what was initially intended to be a part-time weekend job. Over the course of 36 years, this role has blossomed into a full-fledged career, leading Connie to support the careers of a staggering 80,000 cast members behind the scenes. Today, two of those cast members are her own children, Matthew Latulippe and Aiyana Bal.

Matthew, who works in food and beverage at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, and Aiyana, who serves as a resort pool attendant at the same hotel, have both been inspired by their mother’s long-standing association with Disney. “It was always fun going and seeing my mum’s colleagues,” Matthew commented, while Aiyana echoed this sentiment, adding, “I always thought it was pretty cool.”

Balancing a demanding career with motherhood posed its challenges for Connie. She often had to adapt her work schedule, opting for later hours to accommodate school pick-up times. Yet, she credits the supportive Disney community and the plethora of job opportunities it offers for enabling her to manage both aspects of her life effectively. Her time spent strolling through the theme park on days off also served as an enjoyable bonus.
In addition to their roles at Disney, both Matthew and Aiyana are enrolled in the Disney Aspire programme, which integrates real-world experience with opportunities for higher education. Aiyana is currently pursuing a degree in organisational leadership, while Matthew’s aspirations lie in becoming a pastry chef. Connie has expressed immense relief and pride in knowing that her children are receiving their education along with practical experience. “It just saves me so much worry about my kids being able to grow,” she remarked. “I know they’ll get the support they need to advance their careers.”
Across the country at Disneyland Resort, another supportive family narrative unfolds. Jenny Sweetman, who started her journey at Disneyland in 1983 as a hostess, has spent the past four decades balancing her career in the park with her responsibilities as a mother. Her commitment to the park has influenced her three daughters—Kelli, Andie, and Jessica—to join the ranks of Disney cast members themselves.
Jenny has played a significant role in Disneyland’s expansions and refurbishments, allowing her children to experience the thrills of new attractions firsthand during cast previews. Although these experiences were memorable, she confesses that nothing compares to witnessing her daughters thrive in their respective roles.
Kelli began her journey at the resort in 2011 and ascended through various ranks, ultimately focusing on safety. Meanwhile, Andie entered retail while studying for a degree in hospitality management, and Jessica, benefiting from the Disney Aspire programme, earned her MBA and now works in communications. Jenny expressed immense pride in how each of her daughters is carving out their unique paths within the Disney framework.
“There are so many different roles at Disneyland,” Jenny explained. “Each one of them has taken the initiative to try new things and learn more about the opportunities that Disneyland offers.” She anticipates that her daughters will continue contributing to the park’s evolution for years to come.
The stories of Connie Latulippe and Jenny Sweetman highlight not only personal achievements but also the broader culture of support fostered within the Disney community. With programmes like Disney Aspire, cast members are empowered to pursue their educational and career goals, ensuring that the legacy of their positions within the parks can flourish among future generations.
As Connie notes, “I’m just proud they’re doing well and that they’re enjoying their time here and getting an education at the same time.” This sentiment encapsulates the essence of the Disney work environment—a place where dreams are nurtured, both for the cast members and their families.
