The incident occurred on May 4, when firefighters responded to a three-alarm blaze at approximately 10:30 AM. Assistant Chief David Simms reported that the fire originated in an electrical room situated between the fourth and fifth floors of the theatre. Despite initial firefighting efforts, flames were later discovered in concealed areas between the fifth floor and the roof, prompting a more extensive response.
Emergency responders described the fire as “deep-seated,” presenting challenges due to the theatre’s complex rigging and electrical systems. Chief Simms indicated that the damage was substantial, particularly in the electrical room, and there was noticeable water damage throughout the venue. However, he reassured patrons that a significant portion of the impact would remain unseen by audiences, as much of the damage was not directly visible.
In a combined statement released by the production team and ATG Entertainment, which owns the theatre, it was confirmed that the fire was contained to the follow spot booth. The underlying cause of the incident remains under investigation, but officials took the opportunity to thank the firefighters and emergency responders for their prompt action.
As a result of the fire, ticket holders for the shows on May 5 and 6 were notified of the cancellations, and further extensions of the shutdown have now been announced.
