According to court documents reviewed by PEOPLE, Cleveland received a mixture of vitamins and electrolytes through an IV infusion, which was allegedly administered too quickly. The complications arising from this procedure evidently led to her sudden cardiac arrest. Cleveland lost consciousness within 27 minutes of the infusion beginning and was pronounced dead shortly after being admitted to a local hospital.
Amber Johnson subsequently turned herself in to the authorities and was booked at Freestone County Jail on 28 April 2024. Her charges include criminally negligent homicide, tampering with physical evidence, and nine counts of delivering dangerous drugs. She was released later that day on a bond set at $69,000.
Reports suggest that Cleveland suffered an overdose of potassium chloride, which was allegedly provided by Johnson. He filed a civil lawsuit against Luxe Medspa in the wake of his wife’s death and worked alongside Texas lawmakers to create “Jenifer’s Law.” This legislative measure, signed by Governor Greg Abbott on 20 June 2025, aims to regulate elective IV therapy facilities in Texas in order to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
In an emotional statement, Brian referred to Jenifer as a profoundly loving individual who enjoyed life. “She just wanted to love… This legislation is perhaps her way of giving back,” he remarked.
