Authorities in New Hampshire have reported the deaths of a married couple identified as David Warren, aged 79, and Rae Lynn Warren, 78. Their bodies were discovered outside their residence on Governor Wentworth Highway in Tuftonboro on 2 May, following a call from a concerned neighbour.

The Tuftonboro Police Department arrived on the scene after being alerted by the neighbour who stumbled upon the couple’s bodies. In a statement released by the New Hampshire Department of Justice on Monday, 4 May, it was confirmed that the Warrens were the owners of the property where they were found.
Initial investigations by authorities suggested the possibility of the deaths being linked to a murder-suicide. However, after conducting autopsies, it was determined that the couple succumbed to environmental hypothermia. The chief medical examiner concluded that both deaths were ruled as suicides.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice said, “Mr. and Mrs. Warren are the owners of the 40 Governor Wentworth Highway property.” This tragic turn of events has left the tightly-knit community of Tuftonboro, which has around 2,600 residents according to 2024 U.S. Census estimates, in shock.
Following the conclusion of the investigations, the authorities indicated that they would not be releasing further details regarding the incident. The circumstances surrounding the couple’s tragic end have raised concerns regarding mental health issues, particularly among older adults.
In light of the incident, local support services are urging individuals who may be struggling with mental health challenges or emotional distress to seek help. Resources such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline are available 24 hours a day for anyone in need of assistance.
The Warrens, described by neighbours as a long-standing couple who enjoyed their summer home, had appeared to be part of the community fabric. The loss of such individuals can have a profound impact on local residents, reminding many of the importance of looking out for one another, particularly in challenging times.
As investigations conclude, the focus remains on raising awareness about mental health issues and ensuring that individuals have access to the necessary support and resources during difficult periods in their lives.
