Police Investigating School Principal for Allegedly Sending Fake Wedding Invitation to Co-Workers to Get Cash Gifts: Reports

The incident came to light on April 13, when the principal informed his co-workers that a wedding would take place at a cultural venue in Jeonju, situated approximately 87 miles from the school. The invitation contained a message explaining that the ceremony would be a small affair attended only by close family members, thereby exempting the school staff from any invitation to the event.

However, a number of concerned employees reached out to the Jeonju venue, only to discover that no wedding reservations had been made in the principal’s name or for any event whatsoever. Compounding the situation, it was later revealed that the principal’s son had already tied the knot last year, suggesting that the invitation was entirely fictitious.

Following the disconcerting revelations, the principal communicated through the group chat to inform colleagues that the wedding had been cancelled, a statement that raised further eyebrows among staff members. It is believed that the invitations were a ploy by the principal to earn monetary presents from school employees as he prepared to step down from his position.

An official from the Gwangyang branch of the Jeollanamdo Office of Education confirmed that the situation is under investigation. “The principal claims he had lost contact with his wife and son after his divorce, and therefore was unaware of his son’s previous marriage,” the official stated.
