Sydney Towle, a 26-year-old influencer, has recently opened up about her ongoing battle with stage four cholangiocarcinoma, also known as bile duct cancer, in a candid video shared with her 926,000 followers on TikTok. Her latest update sheds light on the new clinical trial she is participating in, detailing the steps she is taking as part of her treatment.

In a video posted on May 4, Towle expressed her concerns regarding the effectiveness of her current chemotherapy regimen. “It’ll all be fine but I’m #overwhelmed,” she wrote in the caption, hinting at the emotional toll her health journey has taken on her. As her treatment progresses, Towle revealed that she is exploring additional options as her initial chemotherapy appears to be losing its efficacy.

Towle explained that she will be undergoing an apheresis procedure, which involves extracting specific components from her blood, including white blood cells, while returning the rest to her body. The extracted white blood cells will be used for Tumour-Infiltrating Lymphocyte (TIL) therapy, a personalised immunotherapy treatment that targets the cancer. Following this procedure, Towle mentioned that she would continue with chemotherapy, despite feeling under the weather since her hospital discharge.
Reflecting on her experience, Towle admitted, “I should probably start looking back into more treatment options because this one probably isn’t working.” Her candidness resonates with many who face similar health uncertainties, as she grapples with the reality of considering further clinical trials beyond her current commitment.
Adding another layer of inspiration to her journey, Towle expressed her ambition to participate in the New York City marathon this coming November. Despite the challenges she faces, she noted, “We’ll see how that goes,” demonstrating her determination to live life to the fullest amidst her struggles.
In a prior update on April 20, Towle shared her experience following surgery, which was the initial step in the new clinical trial. During the operation, doctors successfully harvested part of her tumour to isolate immune cells in a lab. Towle was informed that if the process succeeds within two months, there is an 80 per cent chance of generating cells that could contribute positively to her cholangiocarcinoma treatment.
During a subsequent update on April 28, Towle reiterated the importance of maintaining her health while awaiting lab results. “And that means that we need to find a chemo to keep things under control for two months, which is really tough,” she expressed, revealing her mounting frustration as treatment options seem to diminish.
Despite her fears, Towle remained hopeful, stating, “I still have a feeling that everything is going to be okay, but I also am really, really scared that it’s not.” Reflecting on her recent travels and cherished moments with family and friends, she shared her desire to experience more joyful days. “I want more happiness and friendship and love and life,” she said, adding a poignant note of vulnerability to her ongoing narrative.
Before her surgery, Towle had disclosed her disappointment over her chemotherapy’s ineffectiveness, stating, “Unfortunately, chemo is not working again. So everything’s grown.” However, she maintained a sense of gratitude for the surgery, demonstrating her resilience in the face of adversity.
Through her social media platform, Towle continues to document her journey with honesty and openness, offering a glimpse into the realities of living with cancer. As she navigates potential new treatments and reflects on her aspirations, her updates not only inform her followers but also inspire many who resonate with her plight.
As Towle continues her fight against cholangiocarcinoma, her story serves as a reminder of the strength found in vulnerability and the importance of community support during challenging times.
