The incident occurred on Sunday, April 26, when deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a rollover crash near Bench Road. According to authorities, the vehicle carrying the three girls was discovered in an irrigation canal, and they were ejected from the car during the collision. Tragically, all three occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities indicated that a second vehicle, a white Mercedes, was involved in the collision. Following a thorough investigation that included witness statements and security footage analysis, investigators arrested 19-year-old Presiliano Perez-Pineda, who has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide. Notably, one of the charges carries a designation of domestic violence due to Perez-Pineda’s prior relationship with one of the victims.

The investigation was aided significantly by a parent of one of the deceased girls, who recognised the vehicle thought to be involved in the crash at Perez-Pineda’s residence. The parent confronted him, and also observed that the car showed signs of front-end damage, indicating it may have been involved in the collision.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Perez-Pineda initially claimed that his car was struck by the girls’ vehicle. However, he later admitted to being the driver at the time of the crash, stating he fled the scene out of fear of being arrested. Authorities suspect that his actions and failure to report the crash directly contributed to the tragic outcome.

The vehicle driven by Perez-Pineda, which was reportedly registered to his brother, was said to have been missing that morning. The brother noted that he did not suspect anything untoward at the time, as he frequently allowed family members to use the car. The affidavit suggests that prior to law enforcement arriving, Perez-Pineda had communicated to his brother that he had damaged the vehicle and promised to reimburse him for the repairs.
Following his arrest, Perez-Pineda appeared in court, where the judge set his bail at a staggering £1 million. As of the latest updates from authorities, there have been no further developments in the case, which remains in focus as the community grieves the loss of the young girls.
In a statement released shortly after the incident, Othello School District confirmed that all three victims were students at Othello High School. Superintendent Dr. Pete Perez expressed condolences to the families and friends, acknowledging the widespread impact of this tragedy throughout the community. He highlighted the district’s commitment to providing ongoing support to the grieving families during this devastating period.
Vigils and fundraising campaigns have emerged as part of the community’s efforts to support the victims’ families, reflecting the profound sadness and sense of loss experienced across Othello. As investigations continue, many are hoping for swift justice for the families affected by this horrific accident.
