A young man from Yorkshire is confronting a grave cancer diagnosis while looking forward to the birth of his first child. Ryan Storey, 28, was diagnosed with stage 4 Burkitt lymphoma in August 2025 after numerous visits to his GP regarding a lump in his armpit.

Storey first noted the lump in July but faced repeated dismissal from medical professionals, who advised him to return only if he experienced pain, growth, or unusual weight changes. Despite his growing concerns, it was his mother who ultimately persuaded the hospital to perform an ultrasound, which led to a referral for biopsies and, eventually, the diagnosis.
As his health journey unfolded, Storey took to social media to share his experience, chronicling his battle with cancer on TikTok under the account @ryanscancerjourney. His candid posts resonate with many, highlighting the challenges of being taken seriously as a patient. In one video, Ryan recounted his frustrations with the healthcare system, stating that he felt “previously dismissed” and had to persist in seeking answers when the lump became larger and more painful.
Storey described the moment he received his diagnosis as a shock, particularly because aside from the lump, he had no other symptoms. He had been leading a typical life, preparing for a future with his fiancée, Anais, when the news altered everything.
A silver lining emerged shortly after his chemotherapy treatments began; Storey learned that Anais was pregnant. In a heartfelt video from November 2025, he shared that they were expecting a baby boy, set to arrive in May, and had already chosen the name Rueben. “I’m relying on this two percent chance,” he shared, referring to a slim possibility for further treatment. “It’s incredibly small, but you never know.” With each passing day, Storey feels the weight of his situation more acutely. He described his next appointment as dire, as it could determine the course of his treatment and time left for him to spend with his family.
“I could be dead now if I hadn’t pushed for answers,” Storey stated, highlighting the importance of advocating for one’s health.
