A guest at Disney World has gained considerable attention online after sharing her experience of being stranded on the monorail and having to remove the windows for ventilation. Roxanne Davies, who documents her adventures under the username @dudeitsroxy on Instagram, provided a humorous and relatable account of the ordeal that occurred during her recent visit to the theme park.

In an Instagram Reel, Davies detailed how she and her fellow passengers found themselves trapped on the monorail for approximately one hour. As they were en route to EPCOT, the monorail unexpectedly ground to a halt, prompting concerns among the passengers. Reflecting on the sudden stop, Davies described it as feeling akin to hitting something, an incident she had never experienced during her numerous previous rides on the monorail.

Following the abrupt stop, the monorail was powered down in an attempt to reset it, leading to rising temperatures inside the carriage. In a bid to ensure passenger safety, the staff instructed everyone to remove the windows in order to facilitate airflow. “Disney took care of the safety of guests first,” Davies noted in her interview with PEOPLE, emphasising that the decision to take out the windows was essential for providing fresh air within the enclosed space.

As a former flight attendant, Davies stated that the window removal was a straightforward process. The guests were advised to lift the glass panes inside the carriage to prevent them from falling and shattering onto the ground below. Throughout the incident, she commended the monorail pilot for maintaining open communication with everyone aboard. The pilot even managed to inject some light-heartedness into the situation, beginning his announcements with a cheerful, “Heyyyy besties.”
While power to the monorail was never restored, the vehicle was eventually towed to Disney’s Transportation & Ticket Center. In an effort to compensate those affected by the disruption, Disney offered Davies a $25 gift card and Lightning Lane passes for future access to rides.
Davies’ video of the experience has since garnered over a million views on social media, leading to an outpouring of comments, including some sceptical viewers questioning the authenticity of the incident. With the rise of AI-generated content, Davies found it amusing that people assumed the video must be fake. She clarified that no one faced any consequences for removing the windows during their wait.
In another demonstration of making the most out of a challenging situation, Davies took the opportunity to record some Disney-themed content while her head was sticking out of the open window. In a playful parody, she sang a line from “I want adventure in the great wide somewhere,” a line from the musical number in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
The unexpected event not only provided entertainment for Davies and her fellow passengers, but also for her followers online, proving that sometimes adversity can lead to moments of creativity, laughter, and connection. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of theme park experiences, where the unexpected can become a treasured story in its own right.
Despite the hiccup in her visit, Davies expressed gratitude for Disney’s swift response to the situation and the compassionate handling of guest experiences. PEOPLE has reached out to Disney for additional comment but has yet to receive a response regarding the monorail incident.
