An Oklahoma high school principal has garnered national attention after being named prom king, a mere ten days following a harrowing incident where he disarmed a gunman in his school. Kirk Moore, the principal of Pauls Valley High School, was shot in the leg on April 7 while intervening in an attempted shooting that could have claimed the lives of students.

Victor Lee Hawkins, a 20-year-old former student of the school, entered the lobby armed with a firearm, reportedly intending to carry out a mass shooting akin to the infamous Columbine tragedy. An arrest affidavit revealed that Hawkins had fired at a student but fortunately missed. In a courageous act, Principal Moore confronted Hawkins, wrestling with him before successfully disarming him.
