In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, the Caldwell family, which includes Kendra’s parents, Christina and Paul, conveyed their feelings of sadness and concern regarding Joseph’s alleged actions. They described themselves as “troubled and heartbroken” and expressed devastation for the young girl who accused him, recognising the remarkable courage it took for her to come forward with her account.

The statement continued to offer support to the victim, with the Caldwell family affirming their commitment to standing by her throughout the unfolding case. “Our love for this child remains at the forefront of our family’s priorities and minds,” they wrote, praising her strength and encouraging her to stay true to herself amid the trauma. They further acknowledged the emotional impact this incident has had on their grandchildren and reassured their enduring love for both Kendra and her children.
According to reports, the alleged victim, who is now 14 years old, provided testimony during a forensic interview with law enforcement on March 18, coinciding with Joseph’s arrest. The affidavit reveals that the girl described multiple incidents of abuse that occurred during the family trip to Panama City Beach when she was just nine years old. Joseph Duggar was reportedly a guest on that vacation.
The young girl recounted that Joseph had repeatedly invited her to sit on his lap during the holiday. Initially, he would cradle her in his arms, but the nature of their interactions reportedly escalated. She detailed instances where he would encourage her to sit beside him on the couch, covering them both with a blanket. It is alleged that during these moments, he would touch her thighs and, on several occasions, his hand would come into contact with her private areas, outside of her underwear.
After these incidents, the young girl expressed feelings of discomfort and confusion. Notably, Joseph reportedly apologised to her and the inappropriate behaviour ceased. Following this, the girl’s father confronted Joseph on 17 March, during which Joseph allegedly admitted to some of the accusations. This confession prompted a police investigation leading to charges against him for two counts of lewd and lascivious behaviour.
The Caldwell family concluded their statement by extending their thoughts and prayers to all victims of sexual assault. They highlighted the importance of allowing individuals to share their stories without fear of retribution and encouraged a culture of support for victims. “We pray all victims of crimes can be as courageous as this young girl is,” they stated, joining with many others in calling for justice.
As the legal proceedings advance, the community watches closely, both supportive of the young girl and concerned for the implications this case has for those involved. The Caldwell family’s open stance serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by victims and the families connected to such traumatic incidents.
