Authorities in Louisiana have confirmed the tragic deaths of eight children, aged between three and eleven, in a mass shooting that appears to be linked to a domestic dispute. The incident took place at a residence in Shreveport on Sunday morning, with the alleged shooter being identified as Shamar Elkins, who is the father of seven of the deceased children. This shocking event has left the local community in mourning.

The children have been named by the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office as Jayla Elkins, 3; Shayla Elkins, 5; Kayla Pugh, 6; Layla Pugh, 7; Markaydon Pugh, 10; Sariahh Snow, 11; Khedarrion Snow, 6; and Braylon Snow, 5. Tragically, many of the victims were reportedly asleep when the shooting occurred, with police stating that most of them were shot in the head.
In addition to the children, two women and a teenager also sustained injuries during the violent episode but are expected to recover. One of the women is identified as Shamar Elkins’ wife, while the other is believed to be his girlfriend. It remains unclear if either of the women is the mother of any of the children involved.
According to police reports, the violence escalated after Shamar shot one of the adult victims before heading to the area where the children were located. Following the alleged shooting, Shamar attempted to escape the scene by carjacking a man at gunpoint. However, police were able to locate the vehicle shortly thereafter. A chase ensued, which culminated in an officer-involved shooting in Bossier Parish, approximately 30 miles from Caddo Parish. Shamar Elkins was subsequently hospitalised for his injuries, though details regarding his condition remain unclear.
Reports indicate that a teenager managed to escape the house by jumping off the roof, suffering multiple broken bones in the process. It is currently not known whether this individual had any familial connection to Shamar Elkins or the victims.
