A Florida man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy. Brandon Pirela, 26, orchestrated a premeditated ambush shooting involving his ex-girlfriend, Arianna Gajraj, who has since admitted her involvement and testified against him during the trial.

The events leading to this conviction unfolded on December 1, 2023, when the victim, Deon Ramlagan, unwittingly became the target of an attack that had been meticulously planned by Pirela and Gajraj. According to the Lake County State Attorney’s Office, Gajraj, 23, played a crucial role by revealing Ramlagan’s location and facilitating the trap that led to the ambush.
On the day of the shooting, Ramlagan had picked up Gajraj under the pretext of discussing personal issues she was having with Pirela. While the pair were parked in a neighbourhood in Clermont, a white sedan arrived, and Pirela emerged from the vehicle, unleashing a volley of more than 20 rounds at Ramlagan’s car. Fortunately, despite sustaining damage to his vehicle, which was hit approximately 13 times, Ramlagan managed to reverse and escape the scene, subsequently reporting the incident to law enforcement authorities.
During the investigation, officials recovered around 21 shell casings at the scene, indicating the extent of the attack. Damage was also sustained by a nearby truck and mailbox during the shooting. The police discovered that the violent confrontation was the culmination of a calculated plan that Pirela and Gajraj had been formulating for several hours, as evidenced by text messages exchanged between the two.
These messages revealed a chilling progression of their conspiracy. One exchange highlighted Gajraj’s initial hesitations, to which Pirela allegedly replied, “no, he’s dying tonight,” demonstrating his determination to proceed with the murderous plot. Additionally, in the days leading up to the attack, Pirela had reportedly sent menacing messages to Ramlagan, accusing him of having an inappropriate relationship with Gajraj.
Subsequently, both Pirela and Gajraj were brought to justice for their roles in the crime. Gajraj entered a plea deal, admitting to her involvement in the ambush, and was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison, followed by six years of probation. Her cooperation with the prosecution was instrumental during Pirela’s trial, as she provided crucial testimony that contributed to his conviction.
