The notable Baywatch star, who is now 53 years old, was reportedly driving in the early hours when his vehicle collided with the animal. The local Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department suggested that Charvet had attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the dog, which was allegedly not on a leash at the time. Speaking to PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the police department characterised the case as one that “sounds like it was accidental,” explaining that the dogs had run into the roadway.

Following the incident, several reports surfaced regarding the dog and its owner. Vera Errico, the canine’s owner, told TMZ that she was walking her three dogs in a gated community when the accident occurred. Errico claimed that Charvet drove past in his pickup truck, striking her pet. Sadly, the animal, an 11-year-old white English Labrador named Sunday, had to be euthanised due to the injuries sustained.
Errico also described how she and her husband filed a report with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, alleging that the incident constituted a “hit and run,” given that Charvet drove away before contacting the authorities. However, law enforcement sources have asserted that they do not view it as a hit-and-run case, as the actor did call the police shortly after the incident.
In the wake of the incident, a deputy from the sheriff’s department visited Errico and her family to gather details and create a “traffic collision” report. This inquiry aims to establish the events leading up to the dog’s death, including whether the dog was indeed leashed at the time.
David Charvet is best known for his role as Matt Brody in the original Baywatch series, which aired from 1992 to 1996. He also played Craig Field on Melrose Place from 1996 to 1998. In recent years, Charvet has transitioned away from acting and has focused on a new career in construction. He established the Jones Builders Group with a colleague in 2008 with an eye towards building luxury homes across the Los Angeles area.
Reflecting on his career shift, Charvet expressed to PEOPLE in a 2025 interview that transitioning from Hollywood to construction allowed him to maintain his creativity while ensuring he could be present for his children. He stated, “It was also one way for me to ensure that I would be home every morning and home every night so that I could raise my two children.”
Charvet has also spoken of how the years away from the spotlight have shaped him into a better person, reinforcing the value of real relationships and a kind disposition towards others. He remarked, “I wouldn’t change anything about my career decisions… what I’ve experienced with my kids and what I’ve experienced in the last 17 years has definitely made me a better man.”
As the investigation continues, the community remains in shock over the incident. Local dog owners are particularly concerned about safety measures within gated communities, with calls for increased vigilance on behalf of drivers in such residential areas. This incident has served as a reminder of the potential dangers present when pets are allowed to roam freely.
While David Charvet has so far declined to make detailed comments regarding the incident, the community watches closely to see how the situation develops in the coming days. The matter underscores the importance of responsible pet ownership and attentiveness in shared living environments.
