A young father from Chicago has tragically passed away following an altercation at a local bar, leaving behind a young daughter and an unborn son. Xander Kazanowski, aged 25, sustained critical head injuries during a disturbance at the Tune Up Bar located in the Avondale neighbourhood. The incident occurred on March 24, and Kazanowski was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Authorities reported that they received a call to the bar at approximately 3:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Kazanowski unresponsive outside the establishment. Unfortunately, efforts to save him were unsuccessful, and he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted to hospital. An autopsy conducted by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently revealed that Kazanowski died as a result of blunt force trauma, determining the cause of death to be homicide.

Family and supporters have launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising funds to assist with Kazanowski’s expenses. Notably, the fundraising effort highlights the impact of this loss on his family. Kazanowski is described as a devoted father to his daughter, Thea, and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his son, John. The campaign seeks to safeguard the future of his children in his absence and to celebrate Kazanowski’s “vibrant, creative soul.”

Those who knew Kazanowski have fondly remembered him as a person full of ambition and creativity, often inspiring those around him. His love for nature and animals, particularly his dog Zeus, underscored his interconnectedness with the world and the people in it. Described as “living boldly,” his loved ones reflect on the joyful life he led and the memories they will cherish.
In the wake of this tragedy, law enforcement officials are appealing to the public for any information regarding the incident. Investigators are particularly interested in four unidentified individuals captured on surveillance footage entering the bar shortly before the fight broke out. Chicago Police have released images of these persons of interest in hopes of receiving leads from the community.
Paul Rutherford, Executive Director of Cook County Crime Stoppers, condemned the violence, calling it “brutal and senseless.” He urged anyone with knowledge about the events to come forward, suggesting that someone in the community possesses critical information that could aid in solving the case. In an effort to encourage cooperation, Crime Stoppers has announced a reward of $10,000 for tips leading to the arrest of those involved.
Members of the public with any information are encouraged to reach out to Tips Line at 1-800-535-7867 or to contact Area Five Homicide Detective Veleta at (312) 746-6614. Law enforcement has strongly advised that no one attempt to approach the suspects if they are seen, and instead contact authorities immediately.
As police continue their investigation, the community is left mourning the loss of a young life cut tragically short and grappling with the impact of violence in their neighbourhood. Kazanowski’s family and friends are determined to create a legacy for his children, one filled with the love and energy he brought into the world.
