Neil Haque, a 34-year-old insurance underwriter hailing from California, has turned his evening strolls through Disneyland into a life-changing fitness routine. Haque, a former employee of the iconic theme park, has shed over 60 pounds by integrating regular walks into his life, all of which take place in familiar surroundings that once filled him with joy.

His journey towards better health commenced after a deeply personal wake-up call. In October 2022, Haque’s father suffered a stroke, prompting a period of reflection during a difficult time. “It was a really life-changing situation for me,” he revealed, adding that the uncertainty surrounding his father’s recovery weighed heavily on him both emotionally and physically.
The experience forced Haque to reevaluate his lifestyle, which had become stagnant in light of the demanding circumstances. “That entire time became a very low point for me,” he admitted, reflecting on the impact this family crisis had on his overall well-being.
However, during a family Thanksgiving gathering at the end of 2024, Haque had an epiphany. “It became like a wake-up call for me,” he explained. Conversations with his doctors reinforced his desire not only to improve his diet but also to incorporate physical activity into his daily routine. Yet, working from home posed a challenge in terms of maintaining an active lifestyle.
A nostalgic idea soon emerged as he reflected on his past; Haque had spent a decade as a cast member at Disneyland, specifically working as a Mad Hatter in Fantasyland. The memories of staying active during that time inspired him to seek out walking as a sustainable form of exercise. “Walking would be the perfect thing, because it’s easy on the joints, it’s something anyone can do — it’s accessible,” he noted.
In December 2024, Haque committed to his fitness plan, choosing Disneyland as the backdrop for his walking routine. With an annual pass in hand—specifically the Inspire pass, which includes free parking—he was determined to eliminate any obstacles to frequent visits. He typically visits the parks after 5 p.m., aiming for a target of four to five miles during each excursion.
The results of his commitment soon became apparent. Initially averaging around 3,000 steps a day, Haque’s efforts significantly increased his activity levels, with his weekly step count rising to between 8,000 and 9,000 steps.
When he weighed in at his highest recorded weight of 338 pounds, Haque decided it was time to share his journey publicly. In January 2025, he weighed 323 pounds, but today, he proudly reports a weight of 261 pounds. Celebrating milestones, including visible changes in his appearance, spurred him to continue his endeavours.
During the summer months, Haque maximises his outings, often walking in the parks up to five times a week. His transformation has not only been physical; he has also documented his experiences online through cinematic videos showcasing his progress. “I’ve always had a fun knack for wanting to make short-term videos,” he recalled, drawing on his childhood creativity.
Utilising songs to highlight the emotional peaks of his journey, Haque’s video clips reveal both the magic of Disneyland and his remarkable transformation. “When you see my after clip, it’s right when the peak of your favourite song starts,” he explained.
Though the weight loss has been a significant aspect of his journey, Haque emphasises that the most important lesson he has learned goes beyond any number on a scale. “You really have to love yourself when you’re doing this,” he stressed, highlighting the importance of self-acceptance in the pursuit of health.
Through his persistent effort, Neil Haque has not only transformed his physical health but also found solace in a place that is filled with cherished memories. His story serves as an inspiration for anyone seeking to improve their health and well-being, reminding us that sometimes the simplest actions can lead to the most profound changes.
