Authorities have confirmed that a young mother from Santa Ana, California, who was reported missing after a trip to Mexico, has been located and is safe. Yasmin Gonzalez Benitez, aged 21, was discovered to have voluntarily travelled to Mexico, according to a statement from the Santa Ana Police Department.

Benitez, a mother of a four-year-old girl, told her roommate on March 24 that she would be taking a short trip to Tijuana to visit family. She assured her roommate that she would return on the same day but has not been seen since. In her absence, her young daughter has been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Law enforcement officials became concerned when Benitez did not return as expected. Initially, her behaviour was described as out of character, prompting her roommate to contact the authorities. Police conducted an investigation but had difficulty finding Benitez or establishing communication with her family members.
