A woman from Los Angeles has been joyfully reunited with her beloved dog, five years after the pet mysteriously went missing. Michelle Bluestone, who had adopted her Schnauzer mix, Lola, in 2018, never lost hope that she would one day see her furry companion again.

Bluestone and Lola shared three years of companionship before tragedy struck in 2021 when Lola escaped through an opening in the backyard fence. The sudden disappearance left Bluestone heartbroken, describing that period as the “worst time” of her life. She waited for weeks, and then months, with no news of her beloved pet, and as time passed, it became increasingly difficult for her to hold on to the hope that Lola was still alive.
Reflecting on the search efforts, Bluestone recalled, “I went through so much stress. I spent weeks and months looking for her, putting up flyers everywhere. She was microchipped, so I was waiting for a phone call that someone had found her.” Despite her tireless campaigning on local Facebook pages and through community outreach, she received no leads and was left with the gut-wrenching thought that Lola may not have made it.
During the years that Lola was away, Bluestone’s life evolved significantly. She moved from her home in Reseda to Simi Park, got married, started a new job, and continued her education. In a heartwarming turn, she even adopted another dog named Sunny, though the absence of Lola never truly left her heart.
To her astonishment, in February 2026, Bluestone received a phone call she thought would never come. Lola had been spotted on the side of a road in Echo Park, approximately 30 minutes away from where she originally went missing. A good Samaritan had found the dog and took her to a nearby police station, which in turn contacted an animal shelter.
“I was in such shock and couldn’t even believe it,” Bluestone expressed when she was informed of Lola’s miraculous return. Her emotions ran high as she arrived at the shelter, visibly overwhelmed at the sight of her four-legged friend, whom she had feared she might never see again.
Footage from KTLA 5 captured the emotional moment of their reunion. Lola, now 11 years old, was wrapped in a blanket, being gently held by a staff member. As Bluestone approached, she covered her mouth in disbelief, tears streaming down her face as she recognised her long-lost companion.
Lola’s health status was a concern, however. She was found with overgrown toenails and a number of rotting teeth, which required extraction. Yet, Bluestone noted that despite these issues, Lola was in surprisingly good shape for a dog that had been on her own for five years.
The reunion has been nothing short of a happy ending for Bluestone and Lola. The Schnauzer is now settling back into her family life, and the bond between owner and pet seems as strong as ever. Bluestone’s story shines with hope, illustrating the powerful connection between humans and their furry friends, and serves as a reminder that sometimes, with patience and perseverance, love can indeed transcend time and distance.
