Golfing legend Tiger Woods has entered a plea of not guilty to charges of driving under the influence (DUI), causing property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful urinalysis. The plea was filed in Martin County Court on Tuesday, March 31, following a rollover crash that occurred on March 27 in Jupiter Island, Florida.

Woods, who is 50 years old, is once again being represented by lawyer Douglas Duncan. Duncan previously defended Woods in a DUI case back in 2017. By pleading not guilty, Woods has opted to waive his arraignment and has requested a jury trial to contest the allegations against him.
According to court documents and an affidavit related to the incident, Woods was involved in a collision while driving his Land Rover. The report indicates that he attempted to overtake a truck towing a pressure-cleaning trailer, resulting in his vehicle rolling onto its driver’s side as it collided with the rear of the trailer. Sheriff’s officials from Martin County reported that upon arrival at the accident scene, Woods was found to be “lethargic” and displayed signs of impairment.
Despite the concerning signs, Woods registering “triple zeros” on a breathalyser test suggested that he was not impaired by alcohol. However, he allegedly refused to undergo a urine test, leading authorities to suspect that he might have been under the influence of medication or another substance. Indeed, deputies reportedly discovered two hydrocodone pills in Woods’ left pants pocket during their investigation at the scene.
In a statement made to a deputy, Woods explained that his attention was diverted as he was changing the station on his car radio and did not realise the truck ahead had slowed down. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash, and Woods was later transported to a hospital for evaluation. He was released on bond the same day after being booked at the local jail.
A source close to Woods disclosed that he is reluctant to hire a personal driver as he prefers to maintain his independence. This insider indicated that Woods believes himself to be capable of driving safely, stating that he avoids public settings and prefers spending time at home with his children or engaging in solitary activities like golf practice and video games. The source further noted Woods’ disdain for public scrutiny, which may influence his choices regarding personal safety.
This incident marks yet another chapter in a series of difficulties that Woods has faced concerning vehicle accidents. In 2021, he encountered a severe crash in Los Angeles that resulted in multiple injuries and necessitated surgery. Additionally, a prior incident in 2009 also occurred near his residence in Florida.
The upcoming trial will determine the veracity of the charges levied against Woods and could have significant implications for his personal and professional life. As the golfer prepares to defend himself in court, his supporters and followers will be keenly watching the developments of this contentious legal battle.
