In a heartwarming yet surprisingly chaotic turn of events, a wedding in Pittsburgh took a dramatic detour when the couple’s pet dog, Ellie, became the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons. Alan and Morgan Rich were set to celebrate their union on March 21 at The Priory Hotel’s Grand Hall, but it was their beloved mini goldendoodle who stole the show – if only briefly.

Prior to the exchanging of vows, the couple engaged in a romantic first look before being joined by Ellie for some photographs. The five-year-old dog, seemingly taken in by the joy of the moment, exuberantly made a dash towards her owners, but her excitement quickly became overwhelming. As Alan picked her up for a photo, she unexpectedly vomited, leaving him covered in a mess.
“It began as a sweet moment capturing our joy with Ellie and then spiralled into chaos,” wedding photographer Allison Glotfelty recounted. “The laughter that erupted afterwards transformed what could have been a disaster into one of the most unforgettable moments of the day.”
Despite Morgan’s quick reflexes as she attempted to shield Alan from the impending mishap, it was too late. He recounted that the vomit ended up splattering his suit, including his left arm, leg, and shoe. To their relief, however, Ellie’s “projectile enthusiasm” narrowly missed Morgan’s wedding dress.
Witnesses to the incident included Alan’s aunt and mother, who were evidently amused by the commotion and were captured laughing from a nearby window. Rather than being embarrassed, both Alan and Morgan found the incident amusing. “While we had prepared for this day for a long time, we understand that a few unexpected moments are part of the experience,” Alan reflected. “Ellie’s health and happiness far outweigh the inconvenience of a stained suit.”
In light of the unfortunate situation, the bridesmaids quickly sprang into action, gathering cleaning supplies to salvage Alan’s wedding attire. Remarkably, they managed to ensure he looked pristine just in time for the ceremony, allowing the couple to proceed with their special day largely unaffected by the earlier chaos.
Alan adopted Ellie in November 2020, and the dog has since become an integral part of their family. He shared that when he started dating Morgan, Ellie instantly bonded with her, reinforcing their collective sentiment that Ellie is an essential part of their lives. “She is with me at work every day, and our life revolves around her. We knew she would be overwhelmed at the wedding, which is why we included her in the pictures and even on our invitations.”
Interestingly, this was Ellie’s first experience of throwing up from sheer excitement, leaving the couple blindsided as they had not anticipated such a reaction. “There was no warning,” Alan described. “She became incredibly excited and overwhelmed when she saw us. It takes her some time to adjust to new environments, and with so many people around, it was a challenge for her.”
Following the incident, Alan mentioned that Ellie appeared entirely oblivious to the fuss caused by her stomach’s reaction and bore no shame for her actions, illustrating her carefree nature.
With every detail now taken care of, Alan and Morgan Rich were able to focus on what truly mattered – celebrating their love surrounded by family and friends. The unexpected event with Ellie not only made for a memorable story but also reinforced the bond they share with their beloved pet.
With laughter resonating through the event, Alan and Morgan’s wedding day was emblematic of the unpredictable joys life brings, reminding everyone present that sometimes the most cherished memories arise from moments we least expect.
