800 Texas Teens Trash Mansion After Making Airbnb Booking for ‘7 People’ as Event Ends with Gunshots and Arrests

A grand mansion in Celina, Texas, was left in disarray following an unsanctioned party that attracted hundreds of teenagers and young adults. The event, promoted through social media, took place on 21 March and has raised concerns regarding the responsibilities of property rentals and the management of large gatherings.

According to Celina Chief of Police John Cullison, the chaos began when a booking was made via Airbnb for only seven guests. However, estimates suggest that between 500 and 800 individuals descended upon the property. The owners, Kishore Karlapudi and his family, expressed their disbelief at the scale of the party and the subsequent damage to their home.

Karlapudi described the destruction, stating, “They took all the furniture out from the living space and put it in the garage… The granite countertop was broken because it looks like kids danced on those.” He asserted that the property was not designed to accommodate such a large number of people, being limited to a maximum of 20 occupants.

As the raucous gathering unfolded, the atmosphere turned alarming. Police reports indicated that gunshots rang out as the party began to break up, leading to a heightened sense of urgency among law enforcement. Officers were called to the scene after receiving reports of individuals at the front gate armed with guns and making threats.

During the police response, no injuries were reported, despite the grim findings at the property. Officers discovered blood-stained sheets and towels, which heightened the alarm regarding safety at the event. “It’s shock and chaos,” Cullison commented, providing an overview of the disorder that ensued.

The chief highlighted the precarious nature of such unsupervised gatherings, particularly when they are advertised through social media channels. “The party illustrates the very real risks associated with large, unsupervised gatherings, especially involving minors and potentially underage alcohol use,” he remarked. This sentiment was echoed in his call for increased communication between parents and their children concerning the responsibilities tied to such situations.

Following the uproar, two arrests were made: one individual was detained for Driving Under the Influence (minor), while another was apprehended due to an active aggravated assault warrant. The police are continuing their investigation into the events of that night, which marks an alarming incident in the local community.

The scale of the gathering has also prompted a discussion about the responsibilities of hosts using platforms like Airbnb. The owners of the property have temporarily removed their listing as they assess the damage, which is expected to take two weeks to repair. The house itself is notably part of a larger real estate portfolio valued at approximately £7.6 million and occupies 18 acres.

In light of the chaos, Cullison stressed the importance of community awareness, urging parents to take this event as an opportunity to discuss the potential dangers associated with reckless behaviour in unsupervised settings.

Meanwhile, inquiries into the incident continue, and both Airbnb and the Celina Police Department are yet to provide additional comments regarding the ongoing investigation and the implications for property rentals in similar circumstances. The event has left many in the community questioning how public safety can be better managed during potential mass gatherings in the future.
