Dax Harwood, a fellow wrestler and current three-time AEW World Tag Team Champion, announced Condrey’s passing on social media. Harwood, who had enjoyed a close friendship with Condrey for the past five years, reflected on the legendary wrestler’s impact both inside and outside of the ring. “As great as he was in the ring, it doesn’t hold a candle to the human being he was,” Harwood wrote, paying tribute to Condrey’s character and humanity.
Making his debut in the wrestling world in 1973, Condrey first achieved prominence when he co-founded The Midnight Express in 1980 alongside “Ravishing” Randy Rose and Norvell Austin. The team quickly gained fame for their athleticism and charisma. Three years later, Condrey teamed up with “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton, along with manager Jim Cornette, to create a new iteration of the Midnight Express, solidifying their status as a formidable force in tag team wrestling.
Harwood shared heartfelt memories of Condrey, noting the mentor-mentee relationship they fostered. “Dennis and I would text after every match I had,” he recalled, detailing how Condrey offered constructive feedback and expressed pride in his achievements. “One of my heroes loved me enough to take time out of his day to let me know how proud he was of me,” Harwood emphasised, underscoring the connection they shared as colleagues and friends.
In a poignant Instagram post, Harwood pledged to uphold Condrey’s legacy within the wrestling community. “I loved that man and I’ll do everything I possibly can over the next few years I have left in the business to keep his and the Midnight Express’ spirit alive,” he declared. Harwood acknowledged the profound influence that Condrey and Eaton had on other tag teams, stating, “They paved this road so all other tag teams could walk easier.”
