**Trista Sutter Reflects on Family Life After ‘The Bachelorette’**

Trista Sutter, the first star of ‘The Bachelorette’, has shared insights into her journey since her televised romance with Ryan Sutter. The couple’s decision to maintain a low-profile existence in Colorado has allowed them to focus on raising their two teenage children, Max, 18, and Blakesley, 16. With the fame that accompanied the reality show behind them, the Sutters have embraced a more domestic lifestyle away from the spotlight.
Recalling the aftermath of her season finale in 2003, Trista expressed uncertainty about her next steps. Although initially encouraged to pursue more screen time, she and Ryan opted for a quieter life in Vail, Colorado, where Ryan was rooted. “It was funny, because after the show, people told me I was great on-camera and should do more of that,” she remembers. “But then we decided to move our life to Vail.”
The Sutter family enjoyed 20 years in the close-knit mountain community of Vail, where they found solace away from the public eye. Trista remarked, “People were over us pretty soon after we moved there.” Their days were filled with skiing, intertwined with Ryan’s career as a firefighter and Trista’s ventures as a writer and brand ambassador.
Three years ago, the family relocated to Denver, where Trista noted a change in their anonymity. “Denver is different because it’s a big city; there’s a lot more people,” she explained. Despite the increased recognition, she mentioned the local’s warm approach, saying, “We’ve never had a troll in person.”
The former Bachelorette emphasised that her primary focus has always been motherhood, especially after facing challenges during her pregnancies. Trista revealed that she struggled with fertility issues and was on the verge of IVF treatments when she unexpectedly conceived Max. However, complications such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia marked her pregnancy. “It was scary, but we were just so grateful he was ours,” she shared, reflecting on the tough journey.
Trista now identifies strongly with her various roles: “I’m now a hockey mom, a dance mom, a fire wife and a brand ambassador.” While she has pursued various jobs, her children’s upbringing has been her main priority. “That’s been my world—and I wouldn’t trade it for the world,” she stated.
Looking forward, Trista expressed bittersweet feelings about transitioning into an empty-nester phase, as Max prepares for college next fall. “Just thinking about our kids being gone makes me teary-eyed,” she admitted. Despite these emotions, she feels pride in her children’s achievements, stating, “I know that they’re going to be happy and successful—hopefully more so, happy. But that’s the goal.”
Though her life has transitioned far from the television limelight, Trista remains open to new opportunities, yet acknowledges the reality of her previous fame. “That ship has sailed,” she remarked regarding another reality show appearance. However, she certainly wouldn’t oppose a cooking show or a game show, hinting at her interest in further participation in the entertainment sphere in the future.
