A teacher at a Las Vegas elementary school has been arrested under serious allegations including child abuse and misconduct with minors. Kha Nam Nguyen, aged 51, a fifth grade educator at Wing and Lilly Fong Elementary School, was taken into custody on Friday, March 13, according to reports from local news outlets such as KTNV, Fox5, KLAS, and KSNV.

The arrest follows multiple complaints from students who said that Nguyen engaged in disturbing activities in the classroom. Among the allegations is a game dubbed “knife-tag,” where Nguyen reportedly turned off the classroom lights and walked around wielding a “cake knife.” A large serrated bread knife was later discovered in a cabinet within his classroom, an unsettling detail that has contributed to the charges against him.
In addition to the knife game, the teacher was accused of playing a “teddy bear game” involving physical contact with students, predominantly girls, whom he would hug while pretending to be upset. Students indicated that this left them feeling uncomfortable. One student described the experience as “weird in a bad way,” which amplifies the unsettling nature of Nguyen’s alleged behaviours.
Further allegations detailed in the arrest report suggest inappropriate comments were made by Nguyen, including remarks that involved “shipping” students as couples and referring to girls derogatorily as “gold diggers.” One troubling aspect of the case involves the suggestion that Nguyen referred to students as “special ed” when they struggled with answering questions correctly, which has raised further concerns about his conduct.
Reports from students also described Nguyen as exhibiting violent tendencies, including using harsh language and even flipping desks during lessons. These accounts have prompted serious concerns about his suitability as an educator.
During police interviews, Nguyen reportedly admitted to engaging in some of the questionable behaviours for several years, claiming they were intended to build rapport and entertain his students. However, he denied making any derogatory comments in relation to students being “special ed.” According to investigators, the teacher attempted to justify his actions as comedic in nature, aimed at gaining attention and forging connections with the class.
Nguyen has since been released from custody after posting a bail of $15,000. However, he will not be returning to the school and is currently under medium-level electronic monitoring as part of his release conditions.
Prior to his arrest, there had been complaints regarding Nguyen’s conduct within the school. The principal informed police that administrators had responded to previous anonymous complaints regarding his alleged unprofessional statements towards students, as well as separate grievances from staff about unwanted advances and gifts.
Following this incident, the Clark County School District along with Wing and Lilly Fong Elementary School have yet to release an official statement addressing the situation. Investigations into Nguyen’s conduct are ongoing, as authorities seek to determine the full extent of the allegations against him.
