**Tragic Incident Claims Life of Driver on George Washington Memorial Parkway**

In a heart-wrenching incident that has shocked the community, a 39-year-old father of two, Elik Topolosky, tragically lost his life when a tree fell onto his vehicle on the George Washington Memorial Parkway earlier this month. The accident occurred on the morning of Thursday, March 11, while Topolosky was driving southbound, just south of Route 123, according to U.S. Park Police.

Topolosky was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving his family devastated. In May 2025, Dr. Marla Holden, who worked in construction management, was similarly killed when a tree uprooted by severe thunderstorms fell onto her vehicle. Following that incident, the National Park Service (NPS) took steps to remove hazardous trees from the southern section of the parkway. However, it appears that the northern end of the parkway, where the latest accident occurred, remains untouched.

In a statement, the NPS acknowledged the recent tragedies and indicated that park staff are currently in the process of reviewing maintenance activities and conducting further assessments in the areas at risk. They also announced plans to engage an independent certified arborist to assess the situation and recommend any additional actions that may be necessary to ensure public safety.
