The remains of Salisha Ali, a 34-year-old woman who had been missing since July, were discovered months later in a troubling case that has led to the arrest of her husband. Rupchand Simboo, aged 75, was taken into custody on Wednesday, March 11, in relation to his wife’s death, as confirmed by an official from the New York Police Department (NYPD).

Ali had not been seen alive since July 13, 2025, when she was engaged in a FaceTime call with family members. The alarming situation escalated when sanitation workers found what appeared to be human remains in a garbage bag on September 22, 2025. Following a 911 call reporting the potential discovery, the NYPD began their investigation, eventually ruling Ali’s death as a homicide on January 31 of this year.

On March 5, police discovered additional human remains belonging to Ali in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Local councilwoman Joann Ariola confirmed the ongoing investigation at the scene, cautioning that traffic disruptions could occur as police continued their work in the area. The remains were located by employees of the refuge who detected a foul odour during a roadside cleanup.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny reported that the remains showed distinctive and identifiable tattoos that were still visible despite the decomposition. Preliminary examinations by a medical examiner suggested that Ali had been killed with straight-edged instruments, likely including a knife for cutting soft tissue and a saw for severing bone. The precise cause of death, however, remains undetermined.
Simboo has since been charged not only with his wife’s murder but also with obstructing governmental administration and two counts of tampering with physical evidence. Allegedly, after Ali went missing, he contacted the authorities to report her absence, according to local media sources. His legal representation status is currently unclear.
Salisha Ali and Rupchand Simboo first crossed paths while Ali was living in Trinidad in 2023. They married in 2024, and Ali subsequently moved into Simboo’s home. The circumstances that led to her disappearance and subsequent death raise many questions, with investigators working diligently to piece together the events leading up to this tragedy.
The community is left in shock, grappling with the grim details surrounding the case. Friends and family of Ali are reeling from the news, and authorities are keen to uncover more about her life in order to develop a clearer picture of what transpired.
This case serves as a grim reminder of the potentially tragic outcomes of domestic relationships gone awry, highlighting the need for vigilance and support for individuals in similar situations. The NYPD continues to investigate the matter, with hopes of providing answers to a grieving community and delivering justice for Salisha Ali.
