Dog, Who Went Missing in Texas 2 Years Ago, Found ‘Roaming’ N.J. Shopping Mall 1,500 Miles from Home

In an extraordinary reunion, a dog named Koko, who had been missing for two years, was found 1,500 miles from home in Clark, New Jersey. On 4 March, Koko was discovered wandering around the Clark Commons Shopping Center, prompting a passerby to alert the local authorities, the Clark Township Police Department (CTPD) stated in a press release.

The patrolman assigned to the case, Nick Kurus, quickly responded to the sighting and brought the small, grey-and-white dog to the police headquarters. It was here that the department’s staff made significant efforts to identify Koko’s owners. They managed to connect with a pet finder service, leading them to retrieve the contact information of the dog’s recorded owner.

When Kurus made the phone call to Koko’s owners, who reside in Glenn Heights, Texas, they were taken aback. After two years of believing they would never see their beloved pet again, the emotional news came as a surprise. The police department reported that Koko had vanished from her home in Texas and had been lost ever since. Following this unexpected communication, plans were set for a reunion on 7 March, just three days later.

In the days leading up to the reunion, the CTPD took it upon themselves to care for Koko. Officers provided her with food, regular exercise, warmth, and comfort, going above and beyond their regular duties. The department noted that some supplies were even purchased personally by officers who were eager to ensure Koko felt loved and cared for during her unexpected stay.

Patrick Grady, Police Director at CTPD, expressed the commitment of the police personnel to Koko’s welfare, stating, “As a dog lover amongst many other dog lovers, we were not going to make that puppy wait in a shelter or pound.” Officers made Koko’s temporary home as comfortable as possible, even stating that she enjoyed her time in the dispatch room.

The long-awaited reunion of Koko with her owners took place as planned on 7 March. The heartwarming scene saw the dog rushing to her owner, demonstrating the strong bond that had not been broken despite the years apart. The joy was palpable, both for Koko and her grateful owners, who expressed their deep appreciation to the Clark Police for their kindness and care during the dog’s time away from home.
