A tragic incident has unfolded in Murphy, North Carolina, where 74-year-old Diane Emily Pellington was found dead following an apparent mauling by dogs. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) confirmed that Pellington was discovered on 25 February after her family requested a welfare check at her home, located on Cross Creek Lane in the Hiwassee Dam community.

Upon receiving the call for a wellness check, officers from the CCSO arrived at Pellington’s residence and, upon investigation, determined that her death was not due to natural causes. An autopsy conducted on 27 February at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem concluded that Pellington’s death resulted from a dog attack.
