Authorities in Austin, Texas, are investigating a tragic incident that unfolded early on March 1, 2026, at Buford’s bar situated on West 6th Street. “It’s still way too early in the process to determine an exact motivation, but there were indicators on the subject and in his vehicle that indicate a potential nexus to terrorism,” Dorn stated. This revelation adds a complex layer to the investigation, which is ongoing.
In a statement regarding the medical response, Robert Luckritz, chief of Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, recounted that the initial call came in at 1:59 a.m., and the first emergency personnel were on the scene within 57 seconds. In total, 17 individuals were treated, with 14 being transported to local hospitals. The medical response was swift, with critical patients evacuated in under half an hour.
